Montmartre

Montmartre, Paris

Located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, Montmartre is a 130-meter hill that gives the surrounding neighborhood its name. Montmartre translates to “mountain of the martyr,” which is remembered for Saint Denis who died for his faith in 250 A.D. Montmartre’s history also dates back to 1134, when King Louis VI built the church of Saint-Pierre de Montmartre. Since then, the area has provided inspiration to famous artists, like Van Gogh, Picasso, and Dalí,

The most famous attraction in Montmartre is the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur, but it’s also a trendy neighborhood with a vibrant nightlife scene. You can tour La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre free of charge and also catch a glimpse of one of the most beautiful views of Paris from the top. Past the souvenir peddlers and street performers, you’ll find the Montmartre Cemetery, which is the final resting place of French elite from generations ago. Some other Montmartre neighborhood highlights include the Musée de Montmartre, the Place du Tertre square, Clos Montmartre Vineyard, and the popular Parc de la Turlure. This is a great place to visit for late-night food and drink options, and there is a metro station nearby to take public transportation. You might recognize Les Deux Moulins from the movie, Amelie, and Moulin Rouge from the musical and movie of the same name.

Needless to say, this elevated neighborhood is an incredible place to explore. Our Montmartre Walking Tour has been our most popular walking tour for years. Come experience the old village charm and all that Montmartre has to offer and you will understand why.
