It’s almost time to ring in the New Year, and if you’re in Paris for the occasion, you’re no doubt looking for the big to-do. You’ve seen the films – Paris truly is magical on New Year’s Eve. Of course, how you celebrate 2015 largely depends on what kind of night you’re looking for: a big bash, a quiet drink with friends or a night of entertainment. Take a look at this list of offerings for a night you’ll never forget.
The Champs-Elysées
If you’re not intimidated by crowds and you’re looking to be at the center of the action, head to Paris’s most famous boulevard. As the Arc de Triomphe gets all lit up, you’ll see the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance. The Champs-Elysées is the place to be on New Year’s Eve, and can be a good starting point if you’re looking for a wild night out. Besides the merry-making that takes place on the packed streets, you can also scurry away from the crowds to one of the nearby clubs or bars. One thing to note – fireworks and alcohol in glass containers are not allowed on the streets. Also, make sure to keep strict watch on your belongings and be on the alert for pickpockets.
Riverboat Ride on the Seine
If a big party with lots of people sounds like your idea of a nightmare, hitch a ride on one of Paris’s riverboat cruises down the Seine. You’ll get dinner, musical entertainment and some amazing views of the city all lit up. Les Bateaux Parisiens or Bateaux Mouches offer similar packages, which includes a multiple-course meal of fois gras, champagne, chocolates, and much more. The only thing to keep in mind is that these riverboat cruises don’t come cheap. But if you have the means, it’s a truly fabulous way to spend the réveillon. Remember to reserve early!
Dinner at the Opera
Get your culture fix at the Opera Palais Garnier restaurant, where you can usher in the New Year with fine dining and classical music. As the orchestra swells towards midnight, you’ll enjoy the finely-tuned menu of fois gras, veal with potato slivers, a trio of cheeses, macaroons, champagne and more. Come after a show at the Opera, or dine before at 6pm.
A Night at the Cesar’s Palace
There are so many things that epitomize Paris and one of them is French can-can. Get your fix of leather, feathers and high kicks at the Cesar’s Palace, which has a rip-roaring performance planned for New year’s Eve. Several courses of French delights, accompanied by the obligatory glasses of champagne, will take you through the show before the stage turns into a huge dance floor for the audience.
If you were picturing something more low-key, head to any of Paris’s restaurants or bars – many of which offer New Year’s specials. Whatever you choose to do, have fun and remember to stay safe out there.
