Pier 39
Fisherman’s Wharf is emblematic of San Francisco, and the main attraction is Pier 39. This commercial hotspot has shops, restaurants, regular street performances, and California’s famous sea lions. It’s a great place for the whole family; check out the two-story carousel or the many arcades and virtual games.
This particular location is excellent for amazing photos of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge – two more icons of San Francisco. The marina area is also the place of departure for Alcatraz cruises, so it’s good to familiarize yourself with the various piers should you be embarking out to the island. It’s also a great place to stroll around after an Alcatraz visit. The many restaurants offer traditional meals or local beer and wine tastings if you’re looking to kick back.
Pier 39 is also home to the famous Aquarium of the Bay. This beautifully constructed underground aquarium is home to more than 20,000 marine animals. Walk through the famous tunnel and experience sleek sharks as they float above your head. See the river otters, jellyfish, and more!
