Embark on a breathtaking journey to the awe-inspiring Montserrat Monastery, nestled high in the craggy mountains just outside Barcelona. See the Black Madonna, enjoy a farm-to-table lunch, and create unique memories on this all-inclusive day trip.

Your day begins at our centrally located meeting point in Barcelona. You will meet your guide and the group here and then board a private small van for a scenic drive through picturesque landscapes just north of Barcelona. Getting out the hustle and bustle of the city allows us to set the stage for the spiritual and cultural wonders that await.

Upon arrival at Montserrat (about an hour’s drive), be prepared to be captivated by the monastery’s unique setting, perched dramatically atop rugged cliffs. Home to the revered Black Madonna, Montserrat has been a pilgrimage site for centuries, drawing visitors seeking solace, inspiration, and a connection to the divine. We arrive early so that you can enjoy fewer crowds and get instant access to the Black Madonna.

Following our interior visit, your guide will lead you around the outside of the monastery, pointing out historically and culturally significant sties along the way. Your guided tour unveils the monastery’s architectural marvels and religious treasures. Marvel at the Basilica’s intricate details, and hear tales of the miracles associated with the Black Madonna, a cherished symbol of Catalonia.

After exploring Montserrat, we will make our way to a family-run cava winery. Here, you will have the opportunity to tour the vineyard on 4X4’s, learn about the intricate cava-making process, and enjoy a delightful lunch outdoor lunch (inside if chilly). Cave is Catalonia’s renowned sparkling wine, and this winery has refined their methods over generations. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque landscape, indulge in a culinary farm-to-table experience that perfectly complements the cultural richness of the day.

After lunch, we will make our way back to Barcelona (the same as the meeting point) where the tour will wrap up. Your guide is happy to pass along recommendations for dinner and other things to see and do in Barcelona.

Good to Know

Please be at the meeting point at least 15 minutes prior to tour. We do not have the luxury of waiting for guests, or catching them up after the fact.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Please dress appropriately to enter the Monastery. You will not be permitted inside if your shoulders or knees are exposed.
Montserrat is wheelchair accessible except for la Moreneta (the Black Madonna). The bodega (lunch & winery) is wheelchair accessible except for the cave. We will explore the vineyard on 4×4’s which is not suitable for wheelchairs. Those with wheelchairs and mobility issues should contact us so we can arrange your visit.
Note that lunch will not be before 1pm; there will be places in Montserrat where you can purchase snacks, and you are also welcome to bring your own.
In case of rain lunch will be inside la Bodega of la Barraca.
We can accommodate vegetarians, pescatarians, gluten free guests, dairy free guests, and provide non-alcoholic options. At this time, this tour is not suitable for vegans.
We can accommodate gluten free guests but cannot guarantee that were will be no risk of cross contamination in the case of celiacs. All guests with serious allergies must sign an allergy waiver at the start of their tour.
Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Meeting Point

Please meet your guide at Passeig de Colom, 2, next to a small supermarket called “Supermercat Colom” and restaurant Port Nou, in front of the news papers kiosk and just a few footsteps from Pl. d’Antonio López (round the corner) where the big post office building is located. Your guide will be holding a sign or carrying a red tote bag.

Where is the tour meeting point?

Is there a dress code?

Yes; Montserrat is still an active place of worship; guests will bare shoulders or exposed knees will not be permitted inside. If it is particularly hot, please bring along additional clothing that you can change into in order to visit the interior of the monastery. We also recommend bringing layers as it sometimes gets chilly on the mountain. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended; we will encounter uneven surfaces throughout the day.

What is your cancellation policy?

We’re happy to reschedule you for free (based on availability) or cancel and fully refund your tour with a minimum of 72 hours notice prior to the activity time. As a ‘Fat Tire Tours Approved’ activity, we are not able to issue refunds or guarantee rescheduling within 72 hours.

Is this tour wheelchair or stroller accessible?

Unfortunately, the vehicles we use on these tours do not accommodate wheelchairs. Small foldable strollers may not pose an issue, but please note that there are many uneven surfaces at the monastery, and we will be taking a tour of a vineyard afterwards. If you would like a day trip from Barcelona and have a mobility impairment, please contact us about a private option.

Where does the tour end?

We will drop off all guests at the same place where we meet: Passeig de Colom, 2, Barcelona, 08002, ES. From here, your guide will be happy to point you to the best public transportation options and taxis.
