It’s that time of year and Berlin is about to host it’s 9th annual music festival. It’s part of the broader Berlin Music Week, and there’s sure to be an act for every taste.
The past 5 years it’s been held at the former Tempelhof Airport. This year though it’s at the more intimate Arena complex. It’s a fantastic venue with numerous stages and halls all closely linked. The entire complex is one rich with history. It used to be Berlin’s largest city bus depot when it was constructed in 1927. With it’s location right next to where the Berlin Wall stood, however, it stood derelict during the Cold War. Only in the 1990s was it refurbished and is now a quirky fun area usually home to flea markets, live acts, and great clubbing.
It’s not just the clubs and locations on terra firma that are of interest. There’s also the Badeschiff (floating pool) as well as another floating club, the Hoppetosse.
Top acts this year include the Editors, Woodkid and Bombay Bicycle Club, as well as Berlin DJs Sven Väth DJ Alle Farben.
